Safely placed high up near the Tibetan Mountains and at the very fringes of the Chinese empire Dali has been somewhat insulated from the ravages of various wars and revolutions that have effected China. Dali is a beautiful old city still preserved in its ancient glory. The city was once an important node on the tea-horse caravan trade route between China and the rest of Asia.
